Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has been ruled out of the clash at Brentford this weekend - and the club have pledged to liaise closely with England regarding his availability for fixtures against Serbia and Albania. The Three Lions have already secured their place in next summer's World Cup with Gordon playing a crucial role in Thomas Tuchel's squad.

Yet he has still been granted the chance to add two more caps to his collection. Tuchel has included him in his 25-man group for the two dead-rubber games. Gordon was withdrawn five minutes before half-time against Athletic Club in midweek with many concerned about a potential recurrence of the hip injury he sustained whilst representing England back in March at Wembley against Albania.

Howe, speaking at his press conference ahead of the Brentford encounter, said: "We don't think it is serious. We will get him scanned and see the results.

"We think he will be out on Sunday. But we will give him every opportunity."

"I am relaxed about that it will be all done with England's blessing and we will work together."

Discussing Yoane Wissa's rehabilitation as he prepares for his comeback from a lengthy knee injury, Howe said: "Yoane is working well, he is on the grass and building his fitness. It is looking at his fitness and sharpness."
