'Every chance': Eddie Howe gives injury update on Anthony Gordon after winger went off injured…

**Newcastle United head to Brentford on Sunday for a Premier League clash live on Sky Sports - Kick-off is 2pm.**

Eddie Howe faced the media on Friday morning, as is tradition, and the big question was, of course, the fitness of Anthony Gordon.

The England winger was withdrawn in the first half against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday night, with Howe confirming after the game that it was a recurrence of the hip injury that also forced him off at half-time in the defeat against West Ham.

Despite being withdrawn two games running, Eddie Howe still refuses to rule out Anthony Gordon from Sunday's game.

Maybe let the lad rest

Eddie Howe seems determined to break Anthony Gordon

---------------------------------------------------

Common sense would tell us that he should sit this game out at least, but Eddie Howe told reporters that there's still a chance Gordon could feature on Sunday.

> “We don’t think it’s a serious injury.

>

> “We’re going to get him scanned and we’re awaiting the results. There’s every chance he might miss out on Sunday but we’ll give him every opportunity to be fit.”

Why isn't James Bunce booting Eddie Howe's door down and telling him "no!"?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

It may not be a serious injury now, but surely if he keeps playing when he's not 100% fit, it could become serious.

Where's James Bunce? Isn't it his job to stop Howe from ignoring the medical advice?

If Anthony Gordon was still playing to the best of his ability when carrying this knock, we could maybe understand the desire to keep playing him, but he's well off his best levels right now. Let the lad rest and recuperate.
