Wolves managerial target Erik ten Hag has been warned he risks making a major mistake returning to Ajax.
Pundits Johan Derksen, René van der Gijp and Khalid Boulahrouz have all sent warnings to the Dutch coach today via [FC Update](https://www.fcupdate.nl/voetbalnieuws/2025/11/ajax-nieuws-derksen-adviseert-ten-hag-als-je-je-volle-verstand-gebruikt-doe-je-het-niet) and [Ajax 1.](https://www.ajax1.nl/ten-hag-krijgt-advies-ga-je-niet-in-een-transferwindow-krijgen/)
Ten Hag appears to be on course for a return to his former club after they sacked John Heitinga yesterday. The manager met with Ajax chief Alex Kroes earlier this week.
That was initially presented as nothing but a meeting between friends. The pair have worked closely together for years at various clubs.
But it now appears to have been something of a sounding out mission from the Dutch club. Particularly because it was made clear the interest from Wolves had been discussed.
They’re also on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Vitor Pereira. Ten Hag was named as an option, and it was made clear that he would be open to speaking to Wolves as well. This was before his apparent meeting with Ajax.
Now a move to Molineux appears to have been pushed aside. But the punditry trio think the Wolves target could be making a massive mistake.

_“He must really love the club to want to join now,”_ said Van der Gijp on Vandaag Inside.
_“The Ajax team is really not even ten percent of the team he had. You have to start from scratch. That’s only possible if you love the club; otherwise, you wouldn’t do it._
_“If you use your common sense, you wouldn’t do it either,”_ added Derksen.
Boulahrouz has similar concerns about the move, insisting that Ajax’s current squad is not up to scratch.
_“You also have to consider the players’ qualities,”_ he concluded.
_“They have to fill the gap. It’s simply not good enough for the Champions League, and I even doubt whether it’s good enough for the Europa League._
_“As a new manager, you really have your work cut out for you. I do think there’s enough material to finish in the top three in the Netherlands.”_
