Aston Villa are back in Premier League action this weekend as Unai Emery’s side look to return to winning ways in the league
The Midlands outfit were beaten 2-0 away at Liverpool in their last league game. They weren’t able to get anything against the Reds at Anfield so will be eager to bounce back with a positive result against the Cherries. Emery’s side are sat in 11th place in the table and are only three points off the top four.
Aston Villa predicted XI vs AFC Bournemouth: goalkeeper and defence
GK: Emi Martinez:Aston Villa’s number one will get the nod again between the sticks. He will be eager to keep a clean sheet against Bournemouth. The Argentina international, who won the World Cup in 2022, has been with his current club since joining in 2020 from Arsenal.
RB: Matty Cash: Emery should bring the right-back into the starting XI again. Victor Lindelof played ahead of him against Maccabi Tel Aviv. Cash likes to get up and down the flank and get involved in attacks.
CB: Pau Torres: Aston Villa landed him in 2023 to boost their defensive department. Prior to his transfer, he caught the eye in Spain with Villarreal. He has been enjoying a run in the team with Tyrone Mings out through injury.
LB: Luca Digne: Maatsen started against Macabbi Tel Aviv and managed to get himself on the scoresheet. However, Digne is likely to slot into his position against Bournemouth. He is more experienced and can cause problems with his left foot.
Aston Villa predicted XI vs AFC Bournemouth: midfield and attack
CM: Amadou Onana: Aston Villa are poised to play Onana from the off again. The 24-year-old was acquired back in 2024 from league rivals Everton. He has since made 42 appearances and has scored five goals.
CM: Boubakar Kamara: Emery went for Lamare Bogarde against Maccabi Tel Aviv to change things up in the middle of the park. He then brought Kamara on in the second half so he should be fresh. He has made five caps for the France national team to date.
RW: Evann Guessand: He rocked up at Villa Park back in August from OGC Nice. The attacker was handed a five-year deal running until 2030. Guessand has only scored once in his first 14 outings and will be looking to prove a point against Bournemouth.
CAM: Morgan Rogers: The 23-year-old has made a slow start to this term by his standards. He still has plenty of time to turn things around though. The ex-Manchester City ace joined Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024 and hasn’t looked back since.
LW: John McGinn: He was rested from the start against Maccabi Tel Aviv and will be ready to feature against the Cherries. The versatile Scotsman penned an extension to his contract recently. He has committed his future until 2028 which is a boost.
ST: Ollie Watkins: Malen led the line in Aston Villa’s last game and managed to score from the penalty spot. However, Watkins is their starting striker in the league. He has one league goal to his name this season.
