Rob Edwards looks Wolves bound after official Middlesbrough decision

A major development in Wolves’ manager hunt as a Middlesbrough announcement hints at Rob Edwards departing.

Rob Edwards is the main candidate to take over from Vitor Pereira at Wolves.

Since Gary O’Neil stepped back from Wolves manager contention, the Middlesbrough boss — whose side are currently third in the Championship — became the frontrunner for the job.

And news emerging from The Boro on Friday points to progress being made in the deal.

Middlesbrough have cancelled Rob Edwards’ press conference

In a surprise turn of events, Edwards’ pre-match press conference ahead of Birmingham has been abruptly cancelled.

Scheduled for 1pm, it emerged just two hours before that it would not be going ahead.

This could be for a multitude of reasons, but the most probable — by some distance — is that Edwards is edging towards a Molineux return.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

It’s still not 100%. Middlesbrough don’t want to lose Edwards. But this kind of announcement is usually followed by a bigger story.

We’ll be keeping our ears to the ground for more information as the day unfolds.
