**Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has provided a promising injury update regarding Alexander Isak ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.**
The Reds make the trip to the Etihad on Sunday afternoon, knowing there is every chance they will be 10 points behind Arsenal by the time the game kicks off.
For Isak, it has been a frustrating start to his Liverpool career, with the Swede struggling with fitness and injury issues since his record-breaking move from Newcastle United in the summer.
He hasn’t featured for the Premier League champions since the 5-1 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League, but his return is now close.
Speaking in his press conference on Friday \[via [_This Is Anfield_](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2025/11/isak-return-slot-fitness/)\], Slot confirmed that Isak could play a part in Sunday’s trip to City, but he needs to be managed carefully, hailing the “incredible” work of the medical team:
_“He will train for the first time today with the team again, after being three weeks out. So I know that I said three weeks ago ‘his pre-season has ended, so now it’s time for us to see where he is’. But I have to come back to those words, because if you are three weeks only with the rehab team that doesn’t bring you back to the level he was three weeks ago._
_“Although our rehab team has done an incredible job, you cannot compare rehab with games of football or training sessions with the team. As much as we try to replicate it, that’s simply not possible. So again, I have to say give him some time.”_
**Will Isak feature for Liverpool against Man City?**
-----------------------------------------------------
By the sounds of it, Isak may not be risked this weekend, but having him on the substitutes’ bench could be a big boost for both Liverpool and the player.
If the Reds are in need of a goal late on, Slot may feel that the 26-year-old has enough fitness to make an impact, especially as he has been named in Sweden’s squad during the international break.
Once domestic action returns later this month, though, it feels like the time for Isak to properly kick on in a Liverpool shirt, finding top form and outlining his status as one of the best strikers in the world.
