Eddie Howe lacking options up front on Sunday as Newcastle United boss reveals new injury issue

ยท 7 November 2025, 12:30

Newcastle United are having a bit of rotten luck with injuries this season as Eddie Howe confirms the latest setback in Friday morning's press conference.

Anthony Gordon is a doubt for the Brentford game after the hip injury he's been playing with finally got the better of him on Wednesday night.

Yoane Wissa's expected return this weekend now looks to have been put back until after the international break, and now Will Osula has also been ruled out.

While we're loath to count Anthony Gordon as a striker, Eddie Howe does use him as such when needed, so with him, Osula and Wissa all out, Nick Woltemade is our only centre-forward option.

Will Osula to be our for a few weeks

Will Osula is expected to be unavailable for 'weeks'

Speaking to the media on Friday morning, Eddie Howe confirmed the news on Will Osula after the young forward withdrew from the squad on Wednesday night shortly before kick-off against Athletic Bilbao.

"It is something he has been feeling for a little bit, but it has been functional and able to play. But he has had a scan, and it told us to pull back a bit. It's not serious but could be out for a few weeks."

So long as Nick Woltemade can get through Sunday's game unscathed, reinforcements should be incoming with Yoane Wissa expected back after the break, which follows Sunday's game.

The Football Gods are targeting specific areas of the pitch this season

It has been a strange one for injuries this season, as it seems to be affecting particular positions. We had the full-back issue when Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall were injured at the same time, and now we're having a centre-forward problem.

Thankfully, we've got the players to weather the storm these days without affecting our team too much.

At least when we play at home.
