Darren Sproles overcame all the odds to have a stellar NFL career, as despite having many doubters due to being just 5’6″ and 190 pounds at best, he spent 15 productive years in the NFL and made three Pro Bowls in addition to winning a Super Bowl.
When you spend that much time in an NFL locker room, you get a front row seat to a lot of great players, and he recently shared his list of who he believes are the five best current running backs in the league.
During a Thursday appearance on Up & Adams, Sproles revealed that his top five running backs in order are Saquon Barkley at No. 1, Jonathan Taylor at No. 2, Bijan Robinson at No. 3, Jahmyr Gibbs at No. 4, and Christian McCaffrey at No. 5.

After the year Barkley had last year, running for over 2,000 yards and dominating in the playoffs en route to winning a Super Bowl, the crown is his until proven otherwise.
That being said, he hasn’t had the best season and is 15th in the league with 519 rushing yards thus far, including a mediocre 4.1 yards per carry and four touchdowns.
Taylor has been a monster and is leading the league with just under 900 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns for the league’s best offense, while Robinson, Gibbs, and McCaffrey have all been steady forces as well.
It’s a fine list and difficult to dispute, but if Taylor continues at his current pace, he could leapfrog Barkley on most people’s lists if the Indianapolis Colts finish the year strong.
