However, the defender could still be given the green light to represent Paraguay during the forthcoming international depending on how he progresses over the next few days.
Alderete has not been involved in the Black Cats’ last two matches against Chelsea and Everton, with Sunderland’s medical staff having been monitoring his wellbeing on a daily basis.
He is yet to return to full training at the Academy of Light, so will not be considered for tomorrow’s Stadium of Light showdown with an Arsenal side that boast a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

“He [Alderete] had to step back because of residual symptoms,” said Le Bris, whose side remain unbeaten in the league at the Stadium of Light this season. “The concussion protocols are really strict and we have been following them, so he won’t be available this weekend.
“He will possibly be able to get some minutes for his national team, to get ready for Sunderland against Fulham.”
Alderete has been selected in the Paraguay squad for the South American side’s upcoming friendlies against United States and Mexico.
It remains to be seen whether he travels to the United States, where the double-header is being staged, but if he passes the mandatory concussion protocols, Sunderland will not prevent him from playing for his national side. Indeed, having been sidelined for more than a fortnight, Le Bris feels the 28-year-old could benefit from playing with Paraguay in the next two weeks.
“Would we prefer that he didn’t go away? Not really,” said the Black Cats boss, who confirmed he has no fresh injury issues to contend with ahead of the Arsenal game. “I think he is in a good place now, but to get fit again, it will be necessary to play. I think it would be nice for him [to play for Paraguay] – and for us.”
