He isn’t pushing the ball down the field much, and the pigskin is coming out of his hand very quickly, limiting what the offense can do in the passing game. But the level at which Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers is playing is pretty impressive.
The 41-year-old Rodgers is on pace to break the Steelers’ single-season passing touchdowns record. He continues to move up the board in NFL history in passing touchdowns and yards, too. Doing it in a Steelers uniform is pretty cool, too.
The concerns are real about the quick passing game and the lack of downfield shots. But Rodgers is thriving in the offense as currently constructed, and many are starting to buy into him.
That includes NFL.com’s Nick Shook, who moved Rodgers up six spots to No. 10 overall in his quarterback rankings.
“Aaron Rodgers looks pretty darn good at 41 years old, folks,” Shook writes. “The numbers might not jump off the page, but he has full command of Arthur Smith’s offense and is still showing the arm talent that placed him on a path to Canton years ago.”
Rodgers does look pretty darn good. Against the Indianapolis Colts in the Week 9 win at Acrisure Stadium, Rodgers wasn’t asked to do much in the passing game, but he spread the football around, took what the defense was giving him, and was very efficient. According to Next Gen Stats, Rodgers managed just 2.7 air yards per attempt, which was the third-fewest of any QB this season.
Everything was quick, designed to get the ball into the hands of his weapons to try and create yards after catch. That’s largely been the plan all season, even though Rodgers still has a great arm and can make all the throws required of the position.
On the season, Rodgers has thrown for 1,692 yards and 17 touchdowns to just five interceptions. He has a quarterback rating of 103.1, and has had a rating of 95.3 or higher in all but one game this season.
It’s working for the Steelers. And Rodgers is having fun again.
Rodgers even moved up in the CBS Sports ranking from Cody Benjamin this week, too, landing at No. 11 overall.
“The most underrated story of the 2025 season? Probably Rodgers’ quiet composure to elevate a long-stale Steelers attack,” Benjamin writes. “He could still use more consistent help, but the 41-year-old is firing it with sharpness.”
The veteran quarterback and future Hall of Famer has provided leadership and accountability offensively. It’s helped the young offensive unit grow and develop this season, and the unit as a whole is taking steps forward consistently. It might not always be pretty, but the style of play is working for the Steelers.
They have the right presence under center to guide them.
