Man City Waiting In The Wings To Make Shock Move For£88M Rated Liverpool Star

Man City have been named as one of the potential suitors for Liverpool attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Hungary captain has had an impressive start to the season and HirTV claim that the Cityzens and Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on the player’s contract talks with the Reds.

Szobozslai currently earns around £120,000 a week, but his salary is just a third of his teammates Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested discussions over an improved contract will take place pretty soon.

However, HirTV report that a wage increase to £180,000 to £200,000 a week may be required to tie down Szoboszlai for the long term.

How much would Szoboszlai cost to sign?

If negotiations over a new deal don’t progress as hoped, there may be an opportunity to snap up the Hungarian international in a future transfer window.

Szoboszlai’s current contract expires in the summer of 2028, so if City were to make a move next year, he would still cost a pretty penny. A figure of around €100m (£88m) has been mentioned as a potential transfer fee

Man City don’t need another midfielder (at the moment)

Having signed Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders last summer, and with Phil Foden and Nico Gonzalez finding form, adding another midfield option is not the top priority for Director of Football Hugo Viana.

However, if Bernardo Silva does leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, there would be an opening. Whether Szoboszlai is a realistic target will likely depend on Liverpool.

If the Reds are unwilling to hand the player a substantial pay rise, which happened to Luis Diaz last summer, then he could well be on the market over the next 12 to 18 months.
