Bayern Munich are in a similar position to Liverpool regarding one contract situation.
Like the Reds regarding Ibrahima Konate, the Bavarian giants will see defender Dayot Upamecano depart the club in the summer unless they can extend his deal.
The Bayern defender has interest from Real Madrid and has reportedly emerged as their priority target, with a verbal agreement potentially already in place with the French international.
And it seems that Upamecano’s transfer could set off a transfer merry-go-round.
At least, that’s what German outlet BILD is reporting.
According to the newspaper, Bayern Munich have now cast their eyes to Ibrahima Konate and are potentially looking to secure him on a free transfer from Anfield.
It is even claimed that the Bavarian giants have begun talks with Konate’s representatives as they weigh up alternatives should their efforts to retain Dayot Upamecano ultimately fail, according to recent reports from Bild’s Tobi Altschäffl.
An Upamecano extension has stalled over disagreements surrounding salary and bonus demands.
The 27-year-old Frenchman has balked at Bayern’s unwillingness to offer a release clause – a privilege granted to only elite performers like Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala.
Bayern’s contingency planning represents a calculated move to protect themselves should Upamecano depart for Real Madrid
Altschäffl has provided additional details on Bayern Munich’s pursuit of the Liverpool man:
“We can report this as breaking news: Bayern are in talks with Konate’s management,” he said.
“His contract is expiring, and Bayern could sign him on a free transfer.”
“We’ve heard that Konate’s agent is in talks with Real Madrid, PSG, and Bayern. He’s a hot prospect on the market, and Bayern are interested,” Altschäffl explained.
Meanwhile, Konate remains locked in contract talks with the Reds, having rejected multiple extension proposals despite Liverpool’s offers.
The 26-year-old has been in no hurry to commit his future, with the defender seemingly waiting for clarity on Real Madrid’s intentions—tactics mirroring those employed by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who allowed his deal to run down before joining Los Blancos last summer
