The Dallas Mavericks lost to the worst team in the Western Conference in their last game. The New Orleans Pelicans had recorded just one win in seven games before playing the Mavs. And with Anthony Davis missing yet another game due to injury, Dallas couldn’t even beat them.
This means that less than 18 months after they were in the NBA Finals, the team is dead last in the Western Conference. Nico Harrison has been scrutinized mercilessly in the aftermath of the Luka Doncic trade, and it’s only getting worse. NBA insider Zach Lowe recently addressed the situation.

“The [Luka] trade is just going to be inescapable,” the analyst said on The Zach Lowe Show. “You had a proven finals-level team. And you took this gigantic risk, shrinking your championship window to AD’s age curve and Kyrie’s age curve.

I don’t know how they construct a great, workable offense out of any of this. I don’t know what else to say. The team as constructed is not good enough to do anything in the West. The team as constructed is just a disaster on wheels.”

The Mavericks have been abominable on offense. And a recent stat shared by a Dallas media member shows just how abysmal it all is right now. This Mavericks offense might be the worst in league history.
‘Defense wins championships’ was the mantra and motivation behind Nico Harrison trading away Luka Doncic. As things stand, it is impossible to dispute Lowe’s take that this team will likely achieve nothing, especially with Kyrie Irving likely returning too late.
