Fifa U17 World Cup: Chelsea's Nigeria-eligible striker comes off bench to score hat-trick for England

Chelsea striker Chizaram Ezenwata stole the spotlight as he came off the bench to score a hat-trick in England's 8-1 rout of Haiti on Friday afternoon at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025.

The 17-year-old forward, who is also eligible to represent Nigeria and Cameroon, made an immediate impact after entering the game in the second half.

Ezenwata opened his account in the 57th minute, added a second goal in the 69th minute, and completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute, helping England secure a dominant victory.

Ezenwata had previously been invited to a Flying Eagles training camp ahead of the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, but club commitments with Chelsea prevented him from joining the squad in Abuja.

The Chelsea forward’s performance came amid an attacking display from England, who were initially put ahead by Luca Williams-Barnett and Reigan Heskey before Haiti pulled one back through Franco Celestin.

Reggie Walsh and Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez also contributed to the scoreline, but it was Ezenwata's goals that completed the emphatic win.

With this hat-trick, Ezenwata has announced himself as one of the standout talents of the tournament, raising questions about his international future and the potential for Nigeria to secure his services in the coming years.
