We’re now 10 games into the 2025/26 Premier League season. The campaign started off very well for a selection of players – however, some of them have experienced a major nosedive in form in the past few weeks. They flattered early only to deceive as the campaign has progressed.
We’ve seen it before – players such as Michu, Emmanuel Dennis and Odion Ighalo have all promised big things early on, only to peter out towards the end of the campaign. Who are this year’s early bloomers?
Jaidon Anthony
Jaidon Anthony had previously looked like one of the best signings of the summer. With four goals and an assist to his name, the Burnley man still represents excellent value for money, but hasn’t registered a goal contribution in his last four games.
Anthony’s chances have been swiftly drying up – it seems that teams have now learned how to contain him and limit his effectiveness.
Simon Adingra
Simon Adingra’s situation is similar to Jaidon Anthony’s. He joined Sunderland upon their promotion to the Premier League and started well, but has failed to maintain his form.
He notched up an assist on the first day of the season, but has not scored or assisted a goal since this. Additionally, his minutes have been running thin – he hasn’t made the starting XI since their fourth game of the season.
Chris Wood
When the season began, people expected another season of success for Chris Wood – especially after he scored twice on the opening day of the campaign.
However, injuries have largely curtailed his season. Combined with the frequently changing personnel at Nottingham Forest, the Kiwi international has not been able to maintain consistency since gameweek one.
Richarlison
Perhaps putting Richarlison in this list is a little harsh, but he certainly isn’t performing as well now as he was at the beginning of the season. He scored 3 goals and picked up an assist in his first 5 outings, but has only been able to muster a solitary assist in the following quintet of games.
Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed far more positive campaign than they did last season so far, but Thomas Frank still needs to iron out a few kinks – they were particularly flat going forwards in their last Premier League game against Chelsea, which will do a player of Richarlison’s ilk no good whatsoever.
Jack Grealish
Jack Grealish is the perfect example of a ‘false starter’ in the Premier League so far this season. Upon his arrival at Everton on loan, the Manchester City star looked like a man possessed – defenders simply could not handle him as he weaved his way down the channels and into the box.
After three games, Grealish had notched up a healthy total of 4 assists. Sadly, he still has the same number of assists at the time of writing, with only with 1 goal to show for it.
He still remains an excellent creative presence for the Blues, but his lack of goal contributions must be worrying head coach David Moyes as Everton slowly slide their way down the Premier League table.
