Wolves are back in Premier League action this weekend with an away trip to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea
Wolves are yet to win in the Premier League so far and have endured a dismal start to the season. They have only two points on the board and are inside the relegation zone along with Nottingham Forest and West Ham. Eight points separate them from Burnley in 17th place.
The Midlands outfit are in the hunt for a new manager after parting ways with Vitor Pereira. They have a big decision to make as to who to fill the vacancy at Molineux with. In the meantime, they are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea.
Chelsea vs Wolves prediction shared by Chris Sutton
Wolves make the journey down to London low on confidence and lost 3-0 against Fulham at Craven Cottage last time out. Defender Emmanuel Agbadou was sent off against the Whites and that result proved to be the final straw for Pereira. The club’s hierarchy are now weighing up their options as they look to find the right candidate to give themselves the best chance of avoiding relegation to the Championship.
Former Chelsea, Birmingham City and Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton has shared his score prediction ahead of Saturday night’s match, as per a report by BBC Sport: “Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said after Wednesday's draw with Qarabag that he is rotating his team so much because the Club World Cup is taking its toll on his squad. That must be a factor in their inconsistency, but I don't think it will matter here because Wolves have been such a rabble recently.
“He has gone now but after last weekend's 3-0 defeat by Fulham, their former boss Vitor Pereira said that technically, tactically and physically they were not at the required level, and I don't expect anything to change at Stamford Bridge. Sutton's prediction: 2-0.”
Can Wolves stay up in the Premier League?
The feeling around Wolves is a sombre one at this moment in time. They are in deep trouble and whoever comes in as their new head coach has a mountain to climb if they are to stay up in the top flight. They need to bring in some more quality in the January transfer window.
Key players like Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri left in the summer for Manchester United and Manchester City respectively. They weren’t replaced adequately and their recruitment wasn’t strong enough, hence their lowly league position. Cutting ties with Pereira seems to be the right decision though as he wasn’t able to get results and get a tune out of what he has at his disposal.
Wolves managed to keep hold of striker Jorgen Strand Larsen amid attention from Newcastle United. However, he hasn’t managed to find his shooting boots yet so their new boss will need to try and get the best out of him. The Toon Army identified him as a potential Alexander Isak replacement but ended up getting Nick Woltemade in his position instead so the Dane stayed put beyond the deadline.
