Yankees’ Devin Williams Linked To NL Team In Free Agency Buzz

Despite a rough start to the 2025 MLB season, Devin Williams improved in the second half for the New York Yankees and is now reportedly receiving significant interest on the free-agent market. The former Milwaukee Brewers closer ended up being more of a setup man for the Yanks this season, but that hasn’t necessarily detracted from his suitors. MLB Network’s Jon Morosi discussed the market for Williams this week, and he mentioned one National League club, in particular, who might pursue Williams. “Devin Williams … struggled a bit in New York before he really did find his footing in a different role towards the second half,” Morosi said. “And now, all of a sudden, there are teams that look at Devin Williams as either a closer or a setup man in free agency,” Morosi continued. “I’ll give you one team that I think is going to be very aggressive in free agency in general this winter: the San Francisco Giants.” Story continues below advertisement “(They have a) new manager, of course. Buster Posey (is) now even more settled in (his) role as the president of baseball operations. You see those numbers of Devin Williams (during the) second half of the season? Very impressive. I would not be surprised at all to see Devin sign with a west coast team, perhaps like the Giants. Posey has shown that he’s all-in on winning now in San Francisco. He made an aggressive move for Rafael Devers last season, and people are fully expecting Posey to be incredibly active on the free-agent and trade markets this winter. Williams finished 2025 with a record of 4-6, an ERA of 4.79, 90 strikeouts and 18 saves in 67 appearances. Notably, he was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in four appearances in the playoffs for New York.
