Manchester City plot ‘mega-money contract’ talks with attacking midfield star

**Hugo Viana and Manchester City are plotting the next steps in ensuring first-team stars in Pep Guardiola’s squad are being recognised for their performances.**

Foden has rebounded strongly in the ongoing 2025/26 campaign off the back a hugely difficult previous season both on the football pitch, and through personal circumstances away from the Etihad Stadium limelight.

The level of the Manchester City Academy graduate’s performances have also most recently seen him recalled to the England national team off the back of three successive camps without a call-up.

Most of Foden’s performances this season have seen him deployed in the attacking midfield role following Kevin De Bruyne’s departure in the summer and despite Rayan Cherki’s arrival from Lyon.

Having established himself once more as a key component of Manchester City and England’s plans both for the present and future, it now appears as though sporting director Hugo Viana is ready to negotiate on improved terms to reflect his importance.

That is according to a new report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-man-city-to-open-phil-foden-talks/), who claim that Manchester City are now planning to open talks with their attacking midfield star Phil Foden over a new ‘mega-money contract’ at the Etihad Stadium.

From the side of Foden himself, it is reported that the 25-year-old is happy at Manchester City and wants to sign fresh terms to his existing agreement.

The Stockport-born playmaker, who has already achieved remarkable levels of success both in terms of individual and collective honours since breaking into the first-team in the 2018/19 season, is currently contracted until 2027.

That expiry date also matches up with the existing agreements tied to defensive midfield star and former Ballon d’Or Rodri, as well as squad players in Nathan Ake and Mateo Kovacic – who is currently sidelined through an injury.

Manchester City are no strangers to addressing contractual pictures two years in advance, and often look to sit down with players under such circumstances particularly when there is no immediate concern about an exit from the club.

Perhaps the more pressing matters will centre around the names whose contracts expire at the end of the ongoing season, with Bernardo Silva and John Stones fitting into that bracket, as well as back-up goalkeepers Stefan Ortega Moreno and Marcus Bettinelli.
