Newcastle United are putting their ‘woeful’ away record on the line against Brentford this weekend.
The Magpies have struggled to find consistency this season, with their away form proving to be a massive issue for Eddie Howe.
They are yet to win on the road in the Premier League, despite most onlookers expecting them to pick up their first victory last time out at the London Stadium. Instead, Newcastle United were terrible against West Ham, losing to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in embarrassing fashion.
That has put them under even more pressure against Brentford, despite bouncing back in the Champions League against Athletic Club on Wednesday night.
This is arguably the bigger game for Eddie Howe, but Paul Merson is expecting the Magpies to endure more misery away from St James’ Park.

Paul Merson says Newcastle United will lose to Brentford
Ahead of the upcoming weekend of Premier League action, Paul Merson has given his score predictions to Sportskeeda.
He expects Brentford vs Newcastle United to end in a home victory, having watched various top clubs struggle against the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium.

“It was a terrible result for Newcastle against West Ham last weekend,” he said.
“They kept the ball but never looked like scoring too many times. It’s a shame because I thought they were starting to find some rhythm and then that loss has now set them back.
“Brentford away is one of the toughest fixtures in this league. Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have all played Brentford away and only City won.
“This is bread and butter for Brentford and Newcastle’s away form is actually quite woeful. I’m backing the hosts for a win.”
Merson’s prediction: Brentford 2 Newcastle United 1.
Newcastle United’s Premier League away record in 2025
If Newcastle United are serious about getting their Premier League season back on track and qualifying for the Champions League again then they need to sort out their away form.
The fact they have not won on their travels at all is worrying, especially as it is something they were doing regularly at the start of the year.
Newcastle’s away record has gotten worse as 2025 has gone on, with their last away win in the Premier League coming against Leicester City in April. Before that they also beat West Ham, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur on the road.
The Magpies have played 14 Premier League away games so far this year, winning four, drawing four and losing six.
