In a recent clash between the Atlanta Hawks and the Orlando Magic, the Hawks came out on top. Atlanta won 127-112, led by 21 points from Zaccharie Risacher. Onyeka Okongwu was also a major contributor, and he was involved in a pretty major incident during the game.
New Magic acquisition Desmond found himself ejected from the game after spiking the ball on Okongwu’s head. This was after a hard foul as the Hawks man went in for a layup. Although he didn’t say anything after the game, the Atlanta star has now taken a shot at Bane.

Today following Hawks practice, I asked Onyeka Okongwu & Mo Gueye about what happened with the Desmond Bane situation on Tuesday.
“Honestly, I didn’t know he spiked the ball on my head till after the game.” – Onyeka

“Honestly, I didn’t know he spiked the ball on my head till after the game,” Okongwu said. “I can already tell that he’s frustrated over there. He’s not having the best year. You know, I’d be frustrated too if I were in the position that he was in over there: that he is watching, respectfully, Paolo and Franz take all the shots.”

There was a lot of hype around Orlando’s acquisition of Bane. Many thought it would take them to the next level. However, they have begun the season 3-5, and it’s safe to say that Okongwu isn’t wrong.

Bane is averaging 13.9 points per game in his first eight. That’s 5.3 less than he averaged last year, and a whopping 9.8 less than the 2023-24 NBA season. Orlando has a lot to figure out if they don’t want their big new signing to become a flop.
