CLEVELAND, Ohio — One of the men accused in a chaotic shootout that wounded six people in the Flats after the Browns’ home opener has pleaded not guilty to multiple felony charges.
Savone Robinson, 21, entered the plea Friday during his arraignment in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. Judge Carl Mazzone kept Robinson’s bond at $100,000, which Robinson posted in September, and assigned attorney Fernando Mack to represent him.
The case is set for a Nov. 19 pretrial hearing before Judge Sherrie Miday.
Robinson, of Elyria, faces six counts of felonious assault, one count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, and two counts of aggravated riot in connection with the Sept. 7 shooting outside Play Bar & Grill near Front Avenue and West 10th Street. An estimated 100,000 people had gathered downtown for the Browns’ season opener.
According to police, a fight that broke out at about 6:15 p.m. between two groups escalated into gunfire. More than 40 shots were fired from at least four different guns, sending people scrambling for cover.
Four of the shooting victims were innocent bystanders, while two were involved in the altercation, according to prosecutors.
The wounded were a 21-year-old woman, a 45-year-old man, a 22-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old boy, who was struck in the mouth. Robinson was the sixth person struck.
Two others have also been charged: Erick Sharp, 19, who faces two counts of aggravated riot; and a 17-year-old charged in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court with felonious assault and other offenses. Prosecutors have moved to have the youth charged as an adult.
Hours after the shooting, Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb ordered city crews to board up Play Bar & Grill. The bar has since sued the city, claiming it did not receive a notice or hearing before the shutdown order. The case is in the U.S. District Court in Cleveland.
Court records show Sharp, of Cleveland, is also due to appear before Miday on Nov. 19. He remained in jail Friday in lieu of a $50,000 bond and faces aggravated robbery charges in a separate case.
Sharp filed for a bond reduction on Wednesday, citing a lack of criminal history.
Mack, Robinson’s attorney, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.
