The Premier League side had sent scouts to observe Celtic’s clash with Midtjylland this week
Everton reportedly had scouts in attendance during Celtic’s 3-1 defeat to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday.
The Premier League club are eyeing up talent ahead of the January transfer window, as their new owners plan to back David Moyes and co when it comes to strengthening the first team.
Midtjylland scored three goals inside the first half to put the game to bed early on. Celtic were able to find the back of the net late in the game through a Reo Hatate penalty but it proved to be a mere consolation.
The Hoops are now outside of the top 24 teams, meaning they must pick up some points to be in with a chance of progressing into the Europa League knockouts.
Everton send scouts to Celtic Europa League clash
According to Everton News, the Merseyside club sent scouts out to Denmark to watch Celtic’s clash with Midtjylland this week. The player on their radar is Franculino Dju, who is in seriously impressive form right now.
The 21-year-old has scored 13 goals in as many Danish Superliga matches so far this season for Midtjylland and he’s turned the head of plenty of clubs. In fact, as many as 20 teams around the world are reportedly keen on Franculino, who is under contract with the four-time Danish champions until 2029.
Everton News reported a fortnight ago that the Toffees and their Premier League rivals West Ham had been quoted a transfer fee of £40 million for Franculino.
Speaking to the outlet, Graeme Bailey said: “He is available in January in theory. As we’ve said, I did touch base with his people over here, intermediaries over here are working for him and they’re still saying that £40 million price tag is there,” Bailey told Everton News.
“It’s a little bit beyond what some will want to pay. So, I’m told that he is open to a move in January. He’s happy, but there’s interest there. I’m told there’s interest from about 20 clubs across Europe from Germany, Italy, France. I think it’ll need a club to test their resolve.”
Highly sought-after transfer target Franculino rains on Celtic’s parade
Franculino kept his stunning run of form ticking over against Celtic. The 21-year-old scored Midtjylland’s third goal of the evening, extending his goalscoring streak to seven consecutive games.
Franculino has now scored nine goals in his last seven appearances across all competitions, taking his overall tally to 18 goals in 25 matches for the season so far.
The loss means Celtic have banked just four points so far in their Europa League run. There are still four games to play but the competitiveness of the tournament won’t be kind to any more slip-ups.
