Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Liverpool midfield mainstay Alexis Mac Allister.
Despite having a star-studded squad, Real Madrid are always on the lookout for players who can further strengthen their ranks. As a result, it’s never a surprise when a top player is linked with the team in white.
Alexis Mac Allister is one such player who has been consistently linked with a move to the Spanish giants. Having scored the winner against Los Blancos in the Champions League recently, it has only intensified their interest in his services.
But, according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Real Madrid have received a major setback in their pursuit of the Argentine international, as he has downplayed the links and remains happy at the Merseyside club. He has no immediate intention of leaving Liverpool anytime soon.
After making a name for himself at Brighton, Mac Allister joined the Reds in the summer of 2023, and he has only gone from strength to strength since. The 26-year-old midfielder has had a prominent role in the team since the start, and his consistent performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
Real Madrid’s interest in Mac Allister
While speaking about Mac Allister’s future, O’Rourke said: “This speculation about Mac Allister and Real Madrid has been going on for a while now.
“The last few transfer windows, there has been talk about it. You just never know.
“Obviously we know that Real Madrid are probably missing a midfielder right now. They haven’t really replaced Tony Kroos or Luka Modric in that midfield engine room.
“His dad previously has spoken about it before saying he was flattered by the interest and would never rule out a move to such a big club like Real Madrid.
“To be fair to the player, he played down speculation in the summer saying he is happy at Liverpool and there had been no contact made.
“As it stands right now, it’s just speculation. He’s happy at Liverpool, Liverpool are happy with McAlister. So I don’t expect any move imminently on that one in there.
“As I said, Madrid, I’m sure we’ll be looking at a number of players as they normally do.”
Mac Allister is not looking to leave Anfield
Real Madrid are one of the clubs that are interested in his services, as Xabi Alonso seeks more quality in the centre of the park. While they have had an impressive start to life under the Spanish manager, they do lack quality and depth in midfield.
They are yet to replace Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, and Mac Allister is someone who could help their cause. While his dad did suggest that a move to a big club like Real Madrid could never be ruled out, the 26-year-old downplayed the links during the summer.
He is quite content at Liverpool and is not actively looking to leave the club anytime soon. Given the player’s stance, Los Blancos might be forced to look at other targets going forward.
