Packers must be “ready to react” for new looks from Eagles’ post-deadline defense, Matt LaFleur …

The Packers’ Week 10 opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles, made the most of the NFL trade deadline by augmenting a defense that has been surprisingly subpar. After putting together a wrecking crew in last year’s Super Bowl run, they are just 23rd in yards allowed, ranking below average against both the run and pass. The Eagles defense sits just 16th in EPA per play after finishing second in 2024.

Before the November 4 deadline, they addressed their shortcomings this season by adding Jets cornerback Michael Carter II and Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips. They also traded for former Packers CB Jaire Alexander from Baltimore. Coming off a bye, the Eagles now travel to Lambeau to take on Green Bay, who will have to prepare for Philly’s new look defense in the wake of their deadline moves.

Eagles could deploy their new weapons in any number of ways

“I guess that’s one of the things that just is tough to account for. We just got to be ready to react,” coach Matt LaFleur said of the Eagles’ game plan incorporating their new pieces.

“Obviously, Jaelan, he’s going to be an edge rusher primarily. Could they move him inside? Yeah. Just going back and watching some of the Miami stuff, what they did with him, where he was getting his pressures, you saw him a little bit inside. Primarily on our right side, but we got to be able to adjust to whatever situation.”

A linebacker by position, in Miami Phillips accumulated three sacks, seven QB hits, and 32 pressures in nine games. The fifth-year veteran has 26 sacks in 55 career games (38 starts).

LaFleur continued. “[Eagles CB] Obviously Cooper DeJean, he’s been playing inside and outside, so whether they use Carter inside and keep him outside, or they put one of the other corners out there, whatever it may be, you just got to be able to react.”

Green Bay’s offense will have to navigate some questions of its own as the passing attack looks to compensate for the loss of Tucker Kraft. Green Bay is also dealing with injury uncertainty regarding Matthew Golden (shoulder), Dontayvion Wicks (calf), and Savion Williams (foot).
