West Ham sporting director doesn’t have his own office, plays no part in first-team recruitment

West Ham United sporting director Mark Noble does not have his own office and is not thought to play any part in first-team recruitment or the hiring and firing of managers at the London Stadium club, according to the Daily Telegraph.

West Ham appointed Noble as their sporting director in January 2023, but the former Hammers midfielder does not do what most of his counterparts at other Premier League clubs do.

His initial focus was to help the Irons keep their English top-flight status at the end of the 2022-23 season.

West Ham ended up finishing 14th in the table, six points off the drop zone, and they also qualified for the Europa League after winning the Europa Conference League.

Noble started focusing on the club’s academy afterwards, and West Ham have won the FA Youth Cup and Under-18 Premier League Cup since then.

While his involvement in major first-team planning is now limited, he speaks to new players and new coaches about West Ham and regularly offers his support.

He also speaks regularly to Hammers captain Jarrod Bowen and will be desperate to help in any way he can as the team looks to avoid relegation.

West Ham are 18th in the table following an underwhelming start to 2025-26 which has yielded just two league victories.

Hammers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo succeeded Graham Potter in September after the Englishman was fired having won one of their opening five league games.

Santo has a win and a draw in five league games, and he will fancy his chances of heading into the break with another win when Burnley visit London Stadium on Saturday.

There will be a protest march against West Ham owner and chairman David Sullivan and vice-chairman Karren Brady before the game, and the head coach will be hoping nothing interferes with the morale of his men.
