The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to get back to the playoffs and make a deep run this time behind the leadership of franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence has the Jags sitting at 5-3 on the season, just behind the Indianapolis Colts for first place in the division.
Unfortunately for the Jags, they lost a standout on both sides of the ball when they were forced to put star rookie wide receiver and defensive back Travis Hunter on injured reserve.
Now, Lawrence is heading into this weekend’s divisional matchup with the Houston Texans without yet another one of his top targets, according to one prominent league insider.
“Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. will miss Sunday’s game vs. the Texans due to his high ankle sprain,” ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Friday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Oof, that’s a tough blow for the Jags, Brian Thomas Jr. was flashing serious potential early this season, with those explosive routes and that LSU speed translating so well to the pros. High ankle sprains are sneaky brutal; they mess with your plant-and-cut mechanics for weeks, often sidelining guys 4-6 weeks minimum if not managed perfectly. Hoping he gets back strong without rushing it, maybe this forces Gabe Davis and Christian Kirk to step up big against that Texans secondary,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Tough blow for the Jaguars! Brian Thomas Jr.’s high ankle sprain sidelines him vs. the Texans, testing JAX depth. Can Gabe Davis step up? Big test for their AFC South hopes,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Lawrence looks on Sunday without two of his top targets.
