SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - The Krewe of Centaur has named NBA Hall of Famer Robert Parish as the Grand Marshal for its 2026 parade.
The Centaur Parade will roll through Shreveport on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026.
Known as “The Chief,” Parish grew up in Shreveport and built his basketball legacy locally before achieving national fame. He starred at Woodlawn High School, where he earned All-American and All-State honors in 1972 and led the Knights to a 4A state championship.

He stayed home to play for Centenary College, where he became the school’s all-time scoring leader and led the Gents to a 22-5 record in the 1975–76 season, averaging 24.4 points and a nation-leading 18 rebounds per game. Parish was named to several All-America teams and received the James J. Corbett Memorial Award as Louisiana’s top college athlete.
Drafted 8th overall in the 1976 NBA Draft, Parish went on to win four NBA championships: three with the Boston Celtics and one with the Chicago Bulls.
He was a nine-time All-Star, named to both the NBA’s 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams, and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003.
Parish still holds several league records, including most career games played.
His upcoming memoir, The Chief, is due out in March 2026 and will chronicle his journey from Shreveport to the Hall of Fame.

“Robert Parish’s accomplishments on the court speak for themselves, but his journey, starting right here in Shreveport, is a powerful inspiration to our community,” said Krewe of Centaur Co-Captain Greg Atoms. “We are honored to have a true Shreveport legend lead the largest Mardi Gras Parade in North Louisiana. It’s going to be a thrill to showcase a real Shreveport Hall of Famer!”
