The Miami Dolphins could be without some key contributors against the Buffalo Bills.
Miami listed cornerback Rasul Douglas and edge rusher Chop Robinson as doubtful for Sunday’s contest. Four other players — running back Ollie Gordon II, tight end Julian Hill, as well as safeties Ashtyn Davis and Ifeatu Melifonwu — were considered questionable against the Bills. Wide receiver and return specialist Dee Eskridge won’t suit up with a shoulder injury, something that coach Mike McDaniel said Friday morning.
Douglas and Robinson’s status, however, came as no surprise, considering how coach Mike McDaniel said he was “preparing as though” the two would not play. Douglas hasn’t practiced this week because of ankle and foot injuries.
Robinson, meanwhile, is “progressing” through concussion protocol. As of Friday, he had not been cleared to do any on-field work.
Their likely absence would force Ethan Bonner and maybe even Jason MarshalL Jr. to get some extended run at cornerback, while veteran Matthew Judon will slide into Robinson’s vacated post. Other edge rusher options include Cam Goode, newcomer Andre Carter II and potentially even Quinton Bell, who’s on the practice squad.
Gordon, Hill, Davis and Melifonwu’s situations present a different set of challenges.
Through nine games, Gordon has thrived in short yardage situations, accumulating 14 first downs despite being a clear No. 2 to star tailback De’Von Achane. The rookie, however, has practiced on a limited basis throughout Week 10 due to an ankle injury that he suffered against the Baltimore Ravens. Second-year back Jaylen Wright could be in-line for an increased workload if Gordon sits out.
Having already missed the past two games due to a shoulder injury, Hill would be a welcomed addition to the offense. He, too, was limited at practice all week though as the best blocking tight end, his presence could not be overstated.
