Los Angeles Rams kicker Joshua Karty has struggled through the first eight games, recording the lowest field goal percentage at 66.7% and the second-lowest extra point percentage at 88.5% among active kickers while missing eight total kicks, the most in the league. He has made 10 of 15 field goals and 23 of 26 extra points. As a result, the Rams held a kicker competition this week between Karty and Harrison Mevis, aka “Thiccer Kicker,” for Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers.

During Friday’s press conference, Sean McVay revealed that Harrison Mevis will handle kicking duties against the San Francisco 49ers, as reported by Adam Grosbard of the LA Daily News. McVay also shared that Joshua Karty “is not going anywhere.” Meanwhile, the Rams will elevate Mevis from the practice squad, and he will make his professional debut.

Harrison Mevis committed to the Missouri Tigers for the 2020 season. The “Thiccer Kicker” had a strong four-year run at Missouri, making 148 of 149 extra points and 89 of 106 field goal attempts, including a 61-yard field goal in 2023, the longest in team history across 50 games. Mevis was named a 2023 All-SEC Second-Team and is currently the all-time leader in field goals and points in Tigers’ history.
Harrison Mevis signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in 2024 but was cut in August. Mevis later joined the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL in December. Mevis had an excellent 2025 campaign with the Stallions, making 20 of 21 field goal attempts, including a long of 56 yards. He joined the New York Jets in June, did not survive roster cuts, and caught on with the practice squad. However, the Jets cut him in September; he later joined the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad this week.
