Carlos Forbs has reached a new level since leaving Wolves, and his progress has now been rewarded with a senior call-up to the Portugal national team.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of matches against Ireland and Armenia, manager Roberto Martinez praised the youngster’s development, as relayed by [**Record**](https://www.record.pt/futebol/selecoes/detalhe/em-direto-os-convocados-de-roberto-martinez-para-os-jogos-com-irlanda-e-armenia?ref=Detalhe_Relacionadas) in Portugal.
Martinez described Forbs as a very special profile, a fast, vertical player who can play on both wings. He added that the forward is “in the best moment of his career” and that his recent rise deserves recognition, highlighting the important work done with Portugal’s U21 side.
Asked when he decided to call up the former Wolves winger, the coach admitted the choice came after seeing him perform at a higher level for his club. _“We have followed Carlos for a long time. From the first time I saw him with the U17s, I thought he was different. Scoring two goals against Barcelona weighed heavily in the decision and shows his quality,”_ Martinez said.
While Pedro Neto’s fitness remains a concern, Forbs’ name has emerged as one of the most striking additions to Portugal’s latest squad. And a reminder of how quickly his career has accelerated since leaving Molineux.
