After winning their first five games of the season, the San Antonio Spurs have lost two straight. Tonight, the Spurs will try to rediscover the win column when they host the Houston Rockets at the Frost Bank Center. Both Texas teams enter tonight’s affair with a record of 5-2.

After losing to the Phoenix Suns, San Antonio dropped a second consecutive ballgame by falling to the Los Angeles Lakers. While the Spurs were in the game until the final second, the Silver and Back came up short.

While Victor Wembanyama struggled for a second straight game, he still led the way with 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists. He was one of seven players in double figures (see the Final Grades).

Houston’s season has been the exact opposite. After losing two games at the beginning of the regular season, the Rockets have now won five straight. Their latest win was a 124-109 road victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Rockets have three players averaging at least 18 points per game. Kevin Durant leads the way with an average of 24 points, while Alperen Sengun (22.4 points) and Amen Thompson (18.6 points) are also having very productive seasons.

San Antonio Spurs Injury Update

Three players will miss tonight’s game against the Rockets: De’Aaron Fox is out with a hamstring injury, Luke Kornet is out with a sprained ankle and Dylan Harper is out with a strained calf.

Jeremy Sochan and Kelly Olynyk, who both made their season debut against the Lakers, are questionable for tonight’s game. Lindy Waters III also made his season debut in Los Angeles but he’s not on the injury report and will be able to play.

There is some really good news on the injury front, as it is now being reported that Fox will make his season debut tomorrow against the New Orleans Pelicans. Fox has been out since the beginning of training camp after injuring his hamstring in the offseason.

San Antonio Spurs Starting Lineup

Head coach Mitch Johnson is very likely to keep his starting lineup the same. He has used the same starting five in each of the seven games this season. That lineup has Victor Wembanyama at center, Harrison Barnes at power forward, Julian Champagnie at small forward, Devin Vassell at shooting guard and Stephon Castle at point guard.

When De’Aaron Fox returns tomorrow, expect Johnson to switch up the starting five to add Fox. But for tonight’s game, don’t expect any changes.

Betting Guide: Spurs vs. Rockets

The Rockets are favored by 4.5 points and the over/under is 224.5 points. The smart money is on the under. Both of these teams want to be known as defense-first units, so expect a relatively low scoring contest this evening.
