The Raptors 905 are set to do battle with the College Park Skyhawks in the 2025-26 G League season opener. This game will take place on the same night and at the same time as their main roster counterparts' high-stakes NBA Cup group play matchup against the Atlanta Hawks.
Ahead of tonight's exciting double-header, Toronto has made an internal move involving one of its reserves. It was revealed that sophomore forward Jonathan Mogbo has been assigned to the Raptors 905. The announcement doesn't come as a huge surprise, considering Mogbo has only been averaging 5.5 minutes of playing time in the 2025-26 season so far. That’s just a quarter of the 20.4 minutes he logged in his rookie campaign last year.
Jonathan Mogbo has to prove himself with the Raptors 905
He's largely been a non-factor, only earning garbage minutes here or there or serving as a last-ditch effort if guys like Collin Murray-Boyles and Jakob Poeltl don't get the first call.
Look at what I recently highlighted about a guy like Ochai Agbaji. He broke out last year with the Raps, turning into one of the most underrated 3-and-D wings in the league. Now, he's been relegated to a significantly lesser role, which is evident in his 2025-26 stats. Agbaji isn't quite able to replicate the magic he showed last season in his new outlook.
Mogbo is no different either. I thought he could possibly justify some consistent minutes as either the backup four or occasional minutes as a small ball five, butrookie CMB arguably snatched that opportunity from him. Some might see being sent down to the G League as a demotion, but it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Mogbo to prove himself to the Raptors' top brass.
If he can make a strong impression with energy, effort, and a willingness to play hard, Toronto will ultimately have to explore ways to give the former 31st overall pick a role in the future. And at the very least, if Toronto is still hog tied with their rotation, they could have a monster down in the G League that could help propel the 905 to competitive state. It's better to have an outlet to unleash your skills than just rotting away on the bench or trying to make lemonade out of garbage time.
Raptors insider Blake Murphy and former player Matt Bonner discussed Mogbo's G League assignment on Sportsnet, highlighting what the 24-year-old can do to earn his way back into the rotation.

I don't think Mogbo is a lost cause just yet, but again, he's essentially another unfortunate victim of circumstance given how deep the Raptors' roster is. Just when the chips are down, and it's easy to be discouraged, Mogbo needs to take this opportunity with the 905 in stride and maximize his potential.
