Romano: Liverpool 'start' contract talks with Szoboszlai & will discuss terms with teammate…

Liverpool have opened talks over a new contract for Dominik Szoboszlai, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds want to tie Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch to new contracts, as previously revealed by Romano when writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter.

It's understood that the midfield duo are earning around £270,000 between them, with both of their contracts currently due to expire in the summer of 2028. But while renewing their contracts might not be an urgent priority, they'll be determined to ensure that they don't find themselves in a position where they lose another star on a free transfer.

Liverpool's plans to extend the contracts of Szoboszlai and Gravenberch appear to be gather pace with Romano confirming their plans on social media on Friday evening.

Taking to X, Romano said: "Liverpool have started talks over new deal with Dominik Szoboszlai, after exclusive story 2 weeks ago. The plan was clear: Szobo and Gravenberch to discuss new contracts soon, as talks started with the Hungarian. Club super happy + top performances."

It's no surprise that Arne Slot is pleased with Szoboszlai's performances. The 25-year-old has been a true leader for the Reds so far this term and has made 15 appearances so far, scoring two goals and providing five assists along the way.

Described as 'a machine', Szoboszlai was incredible in the 1-0 victory over Real Madrid midweek, dictating the game against the Spanish giants and getting an assist too.

As for Gravenberch, he has become one of Liverpool's unsung heroes after joining from Bayern Munich for a fee worth £40million. So far this term, he has made 11 appearances, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

It might not have been the best start to the season, but Liverpool still have it all to play for. The Reds are third in the Premier League with 18 points from 10 games so far. They are, however, seven points behind league leaders Arsenal. They've also won three of their four Champions League league phase fixtures so far, putting them in a strong position to advance to the last-16.
