Former Lakers forward fires gun during attempted home invasion

Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Christian Wood fired shots to scare off three intruders who broke into a Los Angeles-area home he was inside on Wednesday, according to reports.

Wood was inside a home in Sherman Oaks, California when he heard a crashing sound near the back of the multimillion-dollar property, ABC7 in Los Angeles reported. The three suspects broke through the back door of the home, where they were confronted by Wood.

The former NBA player fired three times into the ground, which scared off the suspects, KTLA5 reports. The suspects, who remain at large, were last seen wearing black and fleeing the scene in a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee, LAPD told The Athletic.

No injuries were reported and no items were reported stolen or missing from the home.

Wood played eight seasons in the NBA from 2015-24 for the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, New Orleans Pelicans, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Lakers. The Long Beach, California, native most recently played one season for the Lakers during the 2023-24 season, when he averaged 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 50 games played.

For his NBA career, Wood averaged 13.6 points and 7 rebounds in 23.2 minutes across 339 games, including 140 starts.
