Mark Sanchez Responds to 'Disappointing' News of Firing During 'Grieving' Time

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has responded to the news of his firing by Fox Sports following his arrest last month.

"It's been a long month for Mark as he continues to recover from serious injuries while also grieving the loss of a close friend," Mark's brother Nick Sanchez Jr. said in a statement to Us Weekly on behalf of the Sanchez family on Friday, November 7. "While the recent news - and its timing - is understandably disappointing, our priority remains his continued healing and recovery. Mark deeply values his time at Fox and the exceptional colleagues he's had the privilege to work with. Those relationships are meaningful and will endure."

Mark, 38, broke his social media hiatus following his arrest on October 26 to mourn the loss of his former New York Jets teammate Nick Mangold, who died after complications from kidney disease. Mangold was 41 years old.

"We lost a good man today. I know @realnickmangold will be a hall-of-famer, but there's more to his story than his accomplishments on the gridiron," Mark wrote via Instagram. "He was more than a teammate. He was my big brother who introduced me to the NFL. He showed me the ropes."

Mark added, "He was my friend and confidant. He was a role model and a great father to his children and husband to his wife. Our hearts are heavy. We will miss you. Rest easy amigo. I love you big fella."

Mangold and Mark played together on the Jets from 2009 to 2013.

Fox Sports announced they had officially parted ways with Mark on Friday. He had worked as a television analyst for Fox since 2021.

"We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network," a Fox Sports spokesperson told Us. "There will be no further comment at this time."

Mark was arrested on October 4 while in Indianapolis to broadcast the game between the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders for Fox Sports the following day.

According to a report by The Athletic on Wednesday, November 5, Fox Sports has hired former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees as an analyst, effectively taking over for Mark.

Mark had not returned to the broadcast booth since the dramatic incident in Indianapolis last month, during which he confronted a delivery driver named Perry Tole over the location of his parked box truck in an alley outside a popular bar.

The two men engaged in a physical altercation, which saw Mark stabbed multiple times and Tole, 69, sustaining a major gash to his face.

Both men were transported to the hospital, where Mark was ultimately arrested.

He was initially charged with three misdemeanors in connection to the incident: battery resulting in injury, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.

Prosecutors added a felony 5 charge to the list of offenses against Mark on October 6, which carries a penalty of one to five years in prison. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

A final pretrial hearing is set for December 2 before the jury trial begins on December 11.
