Premier League Matchday 11 starts on Saturday with a Big 6 battle between Tottenham and Manchester United and caps off on Sunday with a heavyweight clash of Manchester City vs. Liverpool. Let’s get ready for these games and rest of the weekend’s fixtures with our Premier League predictions and picks for every match.
Tottenham vs. Manchester United
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 12:30p.m. GMT (7:30a.m. ET), Saturday, November 8
Manchester United snapped a three-game win streak with a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on Matchday 10. Tottenham, meanwhile, suffered another disappointing defeat at home in a 1-0 loss to Chelsea. The Man Utd result was surely disappointing for Red Devils fans, but it’s hard to overstate just how bad Spurs were last weekend.
The Lilywhites created 0.05 expected goals (xG) from just three shots against Chelsea. No Premier League club has created fewer xG in a single match this season. It was also the fewest single-match created in Tottenham’s recorded history. If that wasn’t bad enough, defenders Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven were caught on camera blanking Spurs manager Thomas Frank after the match.
Frank says that they have since apologized, and Van de Ven scored in Tottenham’s 4-0 win at home versus Copenhagen. However, the point stands: Spurs are bad at home in the Premier League and struggle to create chances. A counter-attacking team like this new-look Man Utd team could cause Tottenham a lot of problems on Saturday.
Tottenham vs. Manchester United Prediction: 1-2
Everton vs. Fulham
Hill Dickinson Stadium, 3:00p.m. GMT (10:00a.m. ET), Saturday, November 8
Everton picked up a much-needed point away at Sunderland, but the Toffees still have only won one of their last eight matches. Fulham earned all three points from their fixture last weekend in a 3-0 win over Wolves. That win also snapped a four-game losing streak in the Premier League for the Cottagers.
Despite the positive results last weekend, it’s safe to say that neither of these clubs are in the best form at the moment. That said, Everton have the clear advantage here. Playing away from home has always been tough for Fulham under Marco Silva, but they’ve been especially poor this season.
Three of Fulham’s four Premier League losses prior to their win against Wolves were on the road — the other was a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Arsenal at home. The Cottagers even struggled away from home against League One side Wycombe Wanderers. Everton are a tough team to beat at home, so it’s hard to see Fulham winning this one given their form.
Everton vs. Fulham Prediction: 1-0
West Ham vs. Burnley
London Stadium, 3:00p.m. GMT (10:00a.m. ET), Saturday, November 8
West Ham picked up an unexpected win at home against Newcastle on Matchday 10. It was the club’s first win under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo and their first win at home since February. Burnley also played at home last weekend, a tough 2-0 loss to Arsenal at Turf Moor.
Prior to the loss against Arsenal, Burnley had won two consecutive matches against Leeds and Wolves, respectively. On paper, those are similar to West Ham — the Hammers have already lost matches against Wolves and Leeds this season. That said, Burnley are poor away from home this season. Their only win was a 2-3 win against Wolves and they’ve conceded two goals or more in each of their away fixtures.
It might be a bit premature to back West Ham to win at the London Stadium again since they have one of the worst home records in the league (1W, 0D, 4L). However, the Hammers looked like a real team against Newcastle last week. If they play half as well on Saturday, they should pick up at least a point.
West Ham vs. Burnley Prediction: 1-1
Sunderland vs. Arsenal
Stadium of Light, 5:30p.m. GMT (12:30p.m. ET), Saturday, November 8
Sunderland held on to their spot in the top four last weekend with a gritty draw against Everton at the Stadium of Light. Arsenal took a trip to Burnley, where they won 2-0 against an overperforming Clarets side. The Gunners followed up that win with another solid performance midweek in the Champions League, beating Slavia Prague 3-0 in Czechia.
Arsenal have now won ten consecutive matches in all competitions, and managed to set a new record for the best defensive start in Premier League history. The Gunners have conceded just three goals in ten matches. Mikel Arteta’s side have also kept eight straight clean sheets, breaking a club record dating back to 1987. Even more remarkably, they’ve only allowed four shots on target in their last five Premier League games — 16 of the 19 other PL clubs have conceded four goals or more in just their last three matches.
All these stats are to say that Sunderland probably won’t win this weekend. It will be surprising if the Black Cats even manage to score.
Sunderland vs. Arsenal Prediction: 0-2
Chelsea vs. Wolves
Stamford Bridge, 8:00p.m. GMT (3:00p.m. ET), Saturday, November 8
Chelsea dominated Tottenham in a lackluster London Derby last weekend, but Wolves are the big story coming into this match.
The West-midlands club have just sacked manager Vitor Pereira. They have yet to win any of their first ten league matches for the second straight season. They are the first club in Premier League history to accomplish this feat. Wolves are also the only club in England’s top seven tiers without a league win this season, following Stamford AFC’s 3-1 win over Stourbridge in the Southern League Premier Central on Saturday.
Amid all their problems, Wolves’ biggest issue has been their defense. According to FBref, they’ve conceded more goals than anyone in the Premier League this season (22) and their goalkeepers have the worst post-shot xG minus goals allowed (-4.5), meaning they are conceding goals that they should be stopping. Chelsea have scored the third-most goals in the league and should do well in this match. .
Chelsea vs. Wolves Prediction: 3-1
Aston Villa vs. Bournemouth
Villa Park, 2:00p.m. GMT (9:00a.m. ET), Sunday, November 9
Aston Villa broke their four-match Premier League winning streak with a 2-0 loss to Liverpool. Bournemouth also suffered a defeat in a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Some Premier League predictions tipped the Cherries to upset City in that match, but considering that they have never even earned a point at the Etihad, the loss was understandable. Villa’s defeat was much more concerning.
Unai Emery played right into Liverpool’s tactics by playing possession football against the Reds. The home-field advantage of playing at Villa Park should be enough to beat Bournemouth, but if he makes the same mistake this weekend, Andoni Iraola’s team could easily take all three points.
Aston Villa vs. Bournemouth Prediction: 2-1
Brentford vs. Newcastle
Gtech Community Stadium, 2:00p.m. GMT (9:00a.m. ET), Sunday, November 9
Brentford suffered a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday. Despite the loss, the Bees are in good form with four wins in their last five matches. Newcastle have also won four of their last five, but fell 3-1 to West Ham in their last Premier League match.
The Magpies followed up that loss with a 2-0 win over Athletic Club in the Champions league. However, that result was at St. James’ Park, which means it doesn’t count for much this season. Newcastle have objectively been one of the worst teams in England away from home. Eddie Howe’s side have yet to win an away match this season (0W, 3D, 2L) and have created the fourth-fewest xG away from home (4.0).
Brentford are a flawed team, but their home record is remarkably consistent. The Bees are averaging 2.00 points per match at home (compared to just 0.60 in away matches) and have scored the joint-sixth most home goals. Newcastle have the talent to win this match, but it’s hard to back them to get more than a draw based on current form.
Brentford vs. Newcastle Prediction: 1-1
Crystal Palace vs. Brighton
Selhurst Park, 2:00p.m. GMT (9:00a.m. ET), Sunday, November 9
Crystal Palace and Brighton both come into this rivalry match following impressive league wins. The Seagulls picked up their first clean sheet of the season last week with a 3-0 win over Leeds. Danny Welbeck scored again for the Sussex club in this win, his third straight match with a goal.
The Eagles, meanwhile, have won three straight after beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, Brentford on EPL Matchday 10, and AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Conference League. Jean-Philippe Mateta has scored in both of Palace’s last two home matches.
If this were last season, it would be easy to back Palace here. Brighton conceded the most counter-attacking goals in the league last season (per WhoScored). This year though, the Seagulls have yet to concede a counter-attacking goal and have overall been much more solid defensively. With that in mind, it’s hard to separate these sides, so a draw feels likely.
Crystal Palace vs. Brighton Prediction: 1-1
Nottingham Forest vs. Leeds
The City Ground, 2:00p.m. GMT (9:00a.m. ET), Sunday, November 9
Nottingham Forest haven’t won in the Premier League since August, but they managed to scrap out a point at home against Manchester United on Matchday 10. Leeds followed up their 2-1 win against West Ham on Matchday 9 with a 3-0 loss to Brighton.
The Forest match showed us that Sean Dyche is clearly putting together the building blocks for what could turn into a solidly mid-table season for the Trees. Leeds’ loss, on the other hand, reinforced something we already know: the Whites are terrible away from home.
Leeds have lost four of their five away matches in the Premier League this season. Even worse for Daniel Farke’s side is that they were shut out in each of their four away losses. Defensively, they’ve also struggled away from Eland Road. They have allowed the fourth-most xG in away matches this season.
Until they prove us otherwise, we’re going to predict Leeds will lose away from home.
Nottingham Forest vs. Leeds Prediction: 2-0
Manchester City vs. Liverpool
Etihad Stadium, 4:30p.m. GMT (11:30a.m. ET), Sunday, November 9
Manchester City continued their strong run of form with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth last weekend. The Sky Blues have now won four of their last five league matches. Liverpool, on the other hand, picked up their first Premier League win in four matches with a 2-0 win against Aston Villa.
As impressive as Liverpool were last weekend and their midweek win in the Champions League versus Real Madrid, it’s hard to feel good about this Reds team just yet.
Arne Slot admitted before the Villa match that his side struggle to deal with direct play. For some reason, Unai Emery opted to play extremely possession-heavy football, which didn’t challenge Liverpool at all. Pep Guardiola likely won’t make that same mistake.
City have played very direct this season, which has allowed them to bypass a lot of the midfield issues they had last year without Rodri. Erling Haaland is also in fine form. The Norwegian has scored 27 goals in 17 matches for club and country this season — including two last weekend against Bournemouth. When you add all this up, it’s hard to see Liverpool getting more than a draw here.
Manchester City vs. Liverpool Prediction: 1-1
