Henderson named in latest England squad but fellow Cumbrian misses out

Crystal Palace No1 Henderson has retained his place in the Three Lions squad named by Thomas Tuchel for World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania.

The Whitehaven-born star joins Everton's regular England No1 Jordan Pickford and Newcastle United's Nick Pope in the goalkeeping ranks.

Pope's recall comes at the expense of Manchester City's Trafford, from Greysouthen, who has been in recent squads but is omitted this time.

Former Carlisle United academy keeper Henderson, 28, is part of a 25-man squad for the two fixtures, which see England take on Serbia at Wembley next Thursday, November 13 before a trip to Tirana to face Albania on Sunday, November 16.

They are the final round of European qualifiers for England, who have already secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup finals in the USA, Canada and Mexico by winning all six games so far to take an unassailable lead at the top of Group K.

Henderson will hope to add to his three senior caps, with the Cumbrian having been in good form for Palace in 16 appearances in league and cup so far this season.

Trafford, meanwhile, has lost his place in the Three Lions senior squad having been usurped at Manchester City by Italy keeper Gianlugi Donnarumma.

The 23-year-old Trafford rejoined City from Burnley in the summer and started the campaign in Pep Guardiola's side before the Premier League club moved for Donnarumma from Paris St Germain.

Guardiola, though, has emphasised his belief in Trafford, claiming the Cumbrian is destined to become England's goalkeeper "sooner or later".

Head coach Tuchel said the likes of Trafford, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Morgan Gibbs-White and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been "outperformed" by others recently but stressed the "door is always open".
