Jaire Alexander Reveals Why Things Didn’t Work With Ravens

Jaire Alexander understands the perception surrounding his career after being released twice in less than a year. The veteran cornerback has faced questions about whether his best football remains ahead of him.

Despite that narrative, Alexander maintains confidence in his ability to contribute at a high level for the Philadelphia Eagles. Last week, the Baltimore Ravens traded Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Philadelphia in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round selection.

Alexander addressed his brief time with Baltimore following the trade. The 2018 first-round pick clarified that his limited role was about the team’s depth chart decisions rather than any physical limitations.

“I think they had some guys they wanted to play,” Alexander said, per The Ravens Wire’s Kevin Oestreiche. “Some younger guys. But I’m excited about this opportunity here.”

The two-time Pro Bowl and two-time second-team All-Pro cornerback spent seven seasons as a consistent starter for the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay drew criticism when it released Alexander in June without an identified replacement on the roster.

He had missed portions of the 2023 and 2024 seasons due to injuries, which factored into the decision. Alexander signed a one-year contract worth $6 million with Baltimore that included $4 million guaranteed and $2 million in incentives.

The move reunited him with former Louisville teammate Lamar Jackson. However, his time with the Ravens proved brief and unproductive. Alexander appeared in only two games and recorded five tackles before being designated a healthy scratch.

He did not see action during Baltimore’s 28-6 victory over Miami on Thursday Night Football despite the secondary facing consistent pressure throughout the game.

The Ravens had viewed Alexander as a low-risk veteran addition who could provide depth in the defensive backfield. Recurring knee issues limited his availability and led to the trade.
