Former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is no longer working for Fox Sports after being charged with a felony stemming from an October incident in Indianapolis.
First reported by TMZ, Sanchez, an NFL color analyst who started at Fox Sports in 2021, is no longer an employee at the network and has been replaced by former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Brees will reportedly work one of the Week 11 games.
“We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network,” a Fox Sports spokesperson told TMZ. “There will be no further comment at this time.”
After learning that Sanchez was let go by Fox Sports, his brother, Nick Sanchez Jr., gave TMZ a statement, saying the former NFL quarterback is focusing on his healing and that he enjoyed his time with the network.
“It’s been a long month for Mark as he continues to recover from serious injuries while also grieving the loss of a close friend,” Sanchez’s brother said. “While the recent news, and its timing, is understandably disappointing, our priority remains his continued healing and recovery. Mark deeply values his time at FOX and the exceptional colleagues he’s had the privilege to work with. Those relationships are meaningful and will endure.”
On Oct. 4 around 12:30 a.m., Sanchez, who was in Indianapolis for the Indianapolis Colts-Las Vegas Raiders game, was involved in a physical altercation. Sanchez allegedly initiated a physical altercation with a man, who then stabbed him in response. Sanchez was seen on video walking down the street holding the side of his body. He was eventually taken to the hospital and initially listed in stable condition.
While Sanchez was in the hospital, he was initially charged with misdemeanors, including battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication. Sanchez was later charged with a Level 5 felony battery charge after photos of the man involved surfaced.
Sanchez, the fifth overall selection in the 2009 NFL draft, played four seasons with the Jets. He also spent time with the Eagles, Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys.
