Murray disappointed for Welbeck and says he should have made England squad

Glenn Murray says he is disappointed for Danny Welbeck – and England.

The [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/?ref=au) striker missed out on a place in the squad for games against Serbia and Albania.

England boss Thomas Tuchel later confirmed Welbeck remains in his thoughts.

He still has time to force his way in for friendlies in March, after which the next challenge will be the World Cup itself.

Former Albion striker Murray had been hopeful Welbeck would make it.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “From Danny’s point of view, I was really disappointed.

“Not only for him but I felt he probably deserved to get in.

“I think what he would bring to the squad as well in form, as in not having an expectation to play.

“He would go there with Harry, without doubt, the No.9 and he would be happy with ten or 15 minutes at the end of games.

“And also what he would bring off the field.

“Being at big football clubs, being involved in major competitions with England before.

“Just that leadership group point of view as well.

“I think there is only an upside in taking Danny Welbeck, in all honesty.”

Tuchel said he will contact the players on his long list once the final qualifying fixtures have been completed over the next fortnight.
