Patrick Mahomes isn’t spending his break sulking over the Buffalo Bills. The Kansas City quarterback turned the bye week into an opportunity to give back to his college community through a literacy initiative.

Mahomes teamed up with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid for a commercial promoting book donations to Lubbock Literacy. Their alma maters face off Saturday when Texas Tech hosts BYU, creating the perfect opportunity for a joint service project between rival schools.
“Ahead of this week’s TOP 10 matchup, BYU alum Andy Reid & and Texas Tech alum Patrick Mahomes are encouraging fans to team up to support Literacy Lubbock,” BYUannounced on X. Fans can bring books to official alumni tailgates at both schools before the game or donate through an Amazon wish list online.

The timing gives Mahomes something positive to focus on after Kansas City’scrushing 28-21 loss to Buffalo on November 2.
That defeat dropped the Chiefs to 5-4 heading into their bye week, though Mahomes played reasonably well with 15 completions on 34 attempts for 250 yards.
Losing to Buffalo stung worse because of the rivalry between these AFC powerhouses. However, dwelling on the past does nothing to improve Kansas City’s championship hopes. The Chiefs need rest and recovery before facing Denver on November 16.
Kansas City Chiefs Eye Redemption as Denver Broncos Bring Flawed to Arrowhead
The Broncos present a legitimate challenge at 8-2 after grinding out a 10-7 victory over Las Vegas on Thursday. That ugly game featured neither quarterback throwing for more than 150 yards, according to John Breech’s analysis forCBS Sports.
The Raiders punted more times than they scored points, while Denver recorded zero first downs on their first four possessions.
Both teams combined for just 17 points, the lowest total in any NFL game this season. Breech noted another remarkable statistic showing both franchises finished with more penalties than first downs. That sloppy performance suggests vulnerability Kansas City can exploit.
The Chiefs should push tempo and force Denver into a cleaner, higher scoring contest. Kansas City’s offense thrives when it dictates the pace rather than grinding through defensive struggles. Mahomes excels at spreading the field and creating explosive plays that punish conservative opponents.
Denver’s strong record demands respect but their offensive limitations create opportunities. The Broncos winning ugly against weak competition differs from handling championship caliber teams. Kansas City enters with playoff experience and a championship pedigree Denver lacks.
The extra week allows Kansas City to heal injuries and refresh mentally after the Buffalo disappointment. Mahomes spending his time promoting literacy shows his leadership extends beyond football. His commercial with Reid demonstrates the positive influence both bring to Kansas City beyond wins and losses.
