For Iraola, it was a good sign for the club that he was picked.

“I asked even if we had any precedents. They told me that, I think Callum Wilson was one before. I think Lewis Cook got one.
“It means that also collectively we are doing things well as a club, because if you don't position yourselves in the right spots in the Premier League, probably nobody notices that there is an English player doing very well.
“But if you find yourself fighting with the teams that we are fighting there, I think there is a much bigger chance that someone says these guys have to be, someone has to be good there.
“I think it’s good also for the national team that also players from Bournemouth or, I don't know, Elliot Anderson from Forest or I think Adam Wharton also is going.

“And you can add players to the national team, not only the players that play for the big clubs that everyone knows.
“And I think it's not only for Alex or for the other players, it's for everyone else or every other English player that is not in a super club. It gives a little bit of [hope].”
Asked about the lack of coverage on Scott’s potential inclusion in the run up to the squad announcement, Iraola said: “The important thing is that the one who had to make the selection was watching definitely our games.

“But at the end, there are football reasons why you are selected or you are not selected. And I'm very pleased that they paid attention to Alex.
“Obviously, he's not a new player for them has gone through the lower level teams in the national team, amazing under 21 tournament and probably that's one of the main reasons why they've trusted him.”
