Eddie Howe makes two major changes to Newcastle United starting Xi as Anthony Gordon left out - …

Newcastle United 2-0 Athletic Club: Joe Buck reaction

Newcastle United latest news: Eddie Howe’s predicted XI for their Premier League clash against Brentford.

Newcastle United head to the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday searching for their first Premier League away win since April. The Magpies slumped to a bitterly disappointing 3-1 defeat against West Ham last weekend and will be desperate to halt their sliding Premier League form against the Bees.

Brentford, though, have shown they are a very tough nut to crack at home this season and defeated Liverpool 3-2 in their previous home game. Eddie Howe will hope his side can continue the momentum gained by a 2-0 Champions League win in midweek - but faces a number of selection dilemmas ahead of their return to the capital.

Here, we take a look at the Newcastle United starting XI that Howe could name for his side’s clash with Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. Do you agree with our picks? Follow us on our social media channels and let us know your thoughts there.

Newcastle United predicted XI v Brentford

Nick Pope

Whilst some supporters questioned his place as number one, Pope responded with yet another clean sheet on Wednesday night. He doesn’t have good memories of this fixture, however, after suffering a knee injury at the Gtech Community Stadium last season.

Kieran Trippier

Trippier rolled back the years with a brilliant performance on Wednesday, reminding everyone of the immense quality he still possesses.

Malick Thiaw

Thiaw continues to impress in defence and, worryingly for the rest of the Premier League, seems to get better as each match passes.

Sven Botman

Thiaw’s performances have somewhat overshadowed Botman’s own efforts at the back. The Dutchman was solid on Wednesday after a disappointing performance at the London Stadium.

Dan Burn

Lewis Hall’s return to action in the week was a huge boost, but Burn will likely start again at left-back this weekend. Burn was very good against Athletic Club and has rarely let his side down this season, or at all during his time at the club.

Bruno Guimaraes

Guimaraes admitted he had been suffering with illness last weekend and in midweek. If he is fit to start again this weekend, that would be a major boost for Howe.

Sandro Tonali

It was Tonali’s reintroduction to the starting XI after this fixture last season which sparked Newcastle United’s renaissance.

Jacob Ramsey

Ramsey will be pushing for a start and having started on the bench in their last two matches, it could be his time to start a Premier League game again this weekend.

Jacob Murphy

Murphy’s goals and assists record in the Premier League means he must start at the weekend, particularly if Anthony Gordon is not deemed fit enough to feature.

Nick Woltemade

Woltemade has had to play a lot of football in recent weeks. Yoane Wissa’s return to fitness may come after the international break, but the German international will be expected to lead the line again on Sunday in his absence.

Harvey Barnes

Barnes was handed a fairly rare chance to impress from the off on Wednesday and returned his manager’s faith with an assist. He has scored on both of his previous visits to Brentford with Newcastle United.
