Manchester City vs Liverpool has become one of the biggest clashes of the season in the Premier League. The two teams have dominated England’s top division for almost a decade now – whenever these two titans come to blows, it is always a major spectacle.
However, with both teams suffering their fair share of misfortune in the 2025/26 campaign, anything could happen when they face each other at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
In their last Premier League game, City overcame early adversity to defeat a game Bournemouth outfit by a score of 3-1. Erling Haaland scored twice as Nico O’Reilly put the cherry on top of their victory in the second half.
Elsewhere, Liverpool put an end to their dreadful run of league form to register a win over Aston Villa last weekend. Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch each scored a goal as the Reds shut Unai Emery’s men out.
Manchester City injury news
Manchester City have just one injury to worry about ahead of Sunday – a far cry from their usual injury situation. It is, however, a significant one nonetheless.
Mateo Kovacic is out on a long-term basis with calcification in his heel – he will need to undergo surgery on his Achilles’ tendon to fix the issue. Unfortunately, this may cause him to miss the 2025/26 season in its entirity.
Liverpool injury news
Liverpool are not quite as lucky as City – they are currently suffering from three injury issues, with an additional injury doubt. Alexander Isak has not looked himself every since he arrived at Anfield in the summer – it seems unlikely that a player of his fragility will be risked in a high-intensity encounter such as this.
Meanwhile, Giovanni Leoni, Jeremie Frimpong and Alisson have all been ruled out. Alisson could return before the end of the month, Frimpong is expected to be back at the beginning of December and Leoni could miss the whole season with an ACL tear suffered early on in the campaign.
