Exclusive: James Garner contract update emerges out of Everton amid Man United interest

Everton are keen to wrap up a new deal for James Garner and avoid the same issues as they endured last summer.

David Moyes has seen plenty of players come and go during his return to Merseyside, with the summer seeing a lot of contracts come to an end.

Over recent weeks, Everton have been working to keep some of their players who are now playing into the final year of their deal.

James Tarkowski has signed a new Everton contract and Jordan Pickford was rewarded with a new deal for his commitment to the club.

However, James Garner and Vitaliy Mykolenko are still watching their current deals tick down.

With Mykolenko admitting he’s open to a new Everton deal, it is now up to the club to get the terms agreed with all relevant parties.

Everton News’ transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has now shared his understanding on where the club stands over Garner’s potential deal.

Everton ready to tie up new deal for James Garner

Moyes has waxed lyrical about Garner this season, with the midfielder being deployed in a number of different positions.

Having faced some criticism from a section of Everton fans last season, it has been a solid start to the term for the 24-year-old.

Speaking to Everton News, Bailey has now mooted that a new deal for Garner could even be tied up by the end of the month.

“I believe that James Garner talks are going to continue over the international break,” Bailey told Everton News.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Garner’s deal is done this month. He’s playing really well. Moyes wants it doing. So he’s leaving it to the Everton chiefs to sort.

“I believe Garner will sign. That’s the belief coming from the club. They’re confident he will, but they need to get it done.”

Against Spurs, Garner was deployed at right-back, with Moyes not totally satisfied with Jake O’Brien’s attacking input.

The midfielder’s versatility has really shone through this season and is just another reason why Everton want to waste no more time and get his new deal sealed.

Garner must be rewarded with new Everton contract

Just the other week, Everton News Columnist Alan Myers urged Everton to hand Garner a new deal as speculation over interest from Manchester United.

The 24-year-old’s performances have been going hugely under the radar in the Premier League, perhaps as a result of his lack of goal contributions.

However, Garner has found himself right up there with some of the Premier League’s top midfielders when it comes to playing the ball forward.

Garner spoke about his hopes of playing for England, but Thomas Tuchel snubbed the midfielder alongside Jack Grealish in his latest squad.

If Garner is able to keep on producing the performances that he is for the Toffees then international caps could come.

But Moyes will just be focused on him maintaining his levels, with a new contract on the way.
