The Celtics came up short against the Magic on Friday night but Jaylen Brown yet again looked fully capable of being a potent No. 1 scoring option on this roster.
Brown finished with a game-high 32 points and a team-high nine rebounds, making him Friday’s “Name to Know” Player of the game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.
Brown posted his 6th 30-point game of the season in the win which ties him for the Celtics record for most 30-point games in the opening 10 games of the year, per status guru Dick Lipe. Brown matches Sam Jones, John Havlicek and Jayson Tatum in that category.
Brown score 30 of his 32 points in the first three quarters, going 14-of-23 in that stretch as he carved up Orlando’s defense in the midrange and on drives to the hoop. The impressive output helped Boston erase a 16-point first half deficit and eventually get Boston the lead early in the fourth quarter.
However, Brown went cold late, mustering just two points in the fourth quarter on 1-of-5 shooting, opening the door for the Magic to pull away with the victory. However, that shouldn’t take away from the All-Star’s tremendously efficient season so far where he’s averaging 28.1 points per game on 53.5 percent shooting from the field over 10 games. Both of those numbers would be career-highs.
Brown and the Celtics will get a chance for revenge quickly against the Magic as a rematch awaits in Orlando on Sunday night at the Kia Center.
