Newcastle United have been getting some good press in the Spanish media in recent days. The renewed friendships which took place around their match against Athletic Club were covered by multiple newspapers.

Now there’s another friendship building between The Magpies, or Los Urracas in Spanish, and a football club in Spain.

Saturday’s edition of La Voz de Almería reports on Peña de Garrucha twinning with Newcastle United. A presentation is set to take place this weekend, as the club – who naturally play in black and white stripes – want to formalise their friendship with the Premier League side.

Peña de Garrucha are just about to celebrate their centenary and as part of that, they’ve decided to twin with Newcastle United. There’s a long history between the pair, and it’s clearly a history which is cherished by the Spanish side.

As the Almería-based club emphasises, it is “a historical bond that strengthens the ties that unite us beyond sport and borders.” It is a well-known fact that the black and white colours worn by P.D. Garrucha are directly inspired by those of Newcastle United F.C. This adoption of the kit is due to the influence of British sailors and technicians.
