Middlesbrough have decided to remove Rob Edwards from the dugout for today’s Championship clash with Birmingham due to Wolves’ interest, GIVEMESPORT sources understand.
The 42-year-old had been planning to manage the Riverside Stadium side on Saturday, but Middlesbrough felt it best he is not in charge, having also cancelled the manager’s press conference on Friday.
Edwards is now likely to join Wolves, who are searching for a new manager following Vitor Pereira’s sacking last weekend.
Middlesbrough are third in the Championship ahead of Birmingham’s visit to the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, five points below leaders Coventry.
Boro are winless in their last three league games under Edwards, taking two points from a possible nine.

As GIVEMESPORT reported on Friday, Wolves have identified Edwards as their primary target to take charge at Molineux following Pereira’s exit last weekend.
The West Midlands club parted ways with Pereira after the 3-0 defeat at Fulham, having failed to win any of their first 10 Premier League games of the season.
Wolves sit bottom of the league ahead of their visit to Chelsea later today, where Under-21s boss James Collins will step in as interim boss.
The Molineux side have secured just two wins in 13 games in all competitions this season, both coming in the Carabao Cup, where they were knocked out in the last 16 by Chelsea last week.
Edwards, who retired from professional football in 2013, started his coaching career at Wolves, taking charge of the Under-18s in the summer of 2014.
He also had spells with the Under-23s and first team at Molineux, briefly acting as interim head coach following Walter Zenga’s sacking in October 2016.
Prior to his appointment at Middlesbrough in July, Edwards also managed Forest Green Rovers, Watford and Luton, leading the latter to Premier League promotion in the 2022/23 season.
Boro have lost just twice in 14 Championship games under Edwards this term and exited the Carabao Cup in the first round following a 4-0 home defeat to Doncaster in August.
