A season that promised much is descending into chaos for the Washington Commanders. Head coach Dan Quinn is navigating a severe storm that shows no signs of slowing down. And this franchise is dangerously close to losing its grip on the campaign.
The Commanders are not giving up without a fight yet. Adam Peters' decision to stand pat at the 2025 trade deadline is proof positive of that, but it's not looking especially promising. Unless results and performances improve, those in power must start looking towards the future.
Washington has the NFL's oldest roster. That was a gamble by Peters, and it's blown up in his face. They are slow, aging, and suffering from countless injuries. That isn't a recipe for success, so the long-term stability of this organization is the most important thing above all else right now.
Quinn is a loyal coach. That can be costly, but the Commanders cannot run their operation with any sentiment whatsoever. They also need to recognize this situation for what it is, which won't be easy after reaching the NFC Championship game last time.

The Washington Commanders aren't exactly blessed with adequate cornerback depth. This was projected to be an area of strength, but it's become a glaring weakness. And now, they will be without four-time Pro Bowler Marshon Lattimore for the rest of 2025 after he suffered a torn ACL against the Seattle Seahawks.
This could shift Mike Sainristil to the boundary, leaving Jonathan Jones manning the nickel. The two-time Super Bowl winner has dealt with health issues this season, and his performances haven't exactly been stellar when on the field. Options are a little thin on the ground, but any further inconsistencies could see the Commanders go younger as part of their long-term planning.
Noah Igbinoghene played well in the slot last season. Antonio Hamilton Sr. is also on the roster, and the Commanders could elevate Car'lin Vigers from the practice squad if things continue to spiral. Jones is unlikely to stick around beyond 2025, so getting a longer look at those who might have a future in Washington is absolutely imperative.
