Newcastle United transfer news: One Real Madrid superstar has been linked with a move to St James’ Park.
Newcastle United have launched an ambitious bid to sign Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga - according to reports in Spain. The 22-year-old is one of world football’s most promising midfield players, but has struggled to regularly nail down a starting spot under Xabi Alonso.
A two-time Champions League winner, Camavinga has spent four years in the Spanish capital following his move from Stade Rennais in August 2021. He has also been capped 28 times by the French national team.
Speculation linking him with a move away from Madrid is not surprising, therefore, but St James’ Park being tipped as his next destination is certainly eye-catching. The Magpies currently sit in the bottom-half of the Premier League table, although they have impressed in the Champions League and actually sit above Real Madrid in that competition, albeit only on goal difference.
Seeing a midfield of Bruno Guimaraes, Camavinga and Sandro Tonali line-up on a regular basis at St James' Park is stuff of dreams for Newcastle United supporters. Whilst reports from Spain hint that could happen, it’s worth taking with a large pinch of salt.

Speculation linking Camavinga with a move to Tyneside comes largely from Spanish outlet Fichajes. The report surrounding the Frenchman with a move to St James’ Park states: ‘Eduardo Camavinga has become one of the most sought-after players in the world, and Newcastle United have launched an ambitious bid to sign him. The Real Madrid player is considered valuable for his versatility and youth, but the Spanish club is not willing to let him go easily. However, there are openings in the situation that Newcastle intends to exploit, and they are preparing a €70 million offer for him.

‘Newcastle United have entered the race for Eduardo Camavinga with determination. According to specialized sources, the British club are finalizing an offer close to €70 million to convince Real Madrid to release their player.
‘Newcastle dreams of signing the Frenchman with the intention of strengthening their project of greatness in the Premier League and in Europe.
‘For Eduardo Camavinga, the idea of joining an emerging project like Newcastle's may be attractive, although there are also doubts about his playing time and his adaptation to the new environment.’
It continues: ‘Real Madrid is not in a position to accept Eduardo Camavinga's departure without adequate compensation. The club considers him an asset for the future and believes his role extends beyond the current season. Although Camavinga's starting position is not yet guaranteed, his potential and adaptability make him a key player.’
The January transfer window will open on New Year’s Day and Newcastle United could be busy in the winter window. Financial restrictions have limited what the Magpies have been able to do in the last two winter windows, with their acquisition of Anthony Gordon back in 2023 the last major incoming transfer they have made during the mid-season transfer window.
Will Camavinga be the next star on that list? Probably not. Transfer silly season is clearly already underway, a little under two months before any club can actually complete business.
